The Pretour will be held on Friday, October 10 and we will visit 5 unique locations around and within Philadelphia. Featuring gardens, urban farming, rehabilitation and adult care, the Pretour will showcase horticultural therapy in the Philadelphia area. We are extremely proud and fortunate to have Stephen Kellert, PhD as our 2014 AHTA Annual Conference Keynote Speaker. Professor Kellert is a social ecologist and senior researcher at Yale University's School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He has written several books and produced a documentary about biophilic design, the topic on which he will speak. Biophilic design goes beyond sustainability to integrate and connect people wih their natural world.
George Ball, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of W. Atlee Burpee & Co., (known to most of us as Burpee Seed Company) will be our Plenary Speaker on Sunday morning. He will be speaking on "Horticulture for Health: Industry Leaders and Horticultural Therapists Collaborating in New Ways." Mr. Ball has directed Burpee's development of breakthrough flower and vegetable varieties and helped foster the companies global charities.
Rounding out our Conference are over 30 presentations and workshops. Featuring tracts that focus on Gardens & Programming, Research, Standards of Practice and Practical Business, you will be inspired, educated and will be able to leave with ideas to implement in your own environments.
